The Santa Monica House

The Santa Monica House is a townhouse located in the heart of Santa Monica, California, whose owners wanted to transform their new residence from a Spanish-style condo without a lot of charm into a contemporary and sleek home for themselves and their beautiful dog to relax, entertain, study, exercise, and enjoy their lives together.

When the couple initially found Nicole, the young and vibrant pair was unsure of their specific design style.  What they were very certain of, though, was their desire to create a space that reflected their distinct personalities and to display their inspired pieces of art – namely a magnificent Bert Stern photograph of Marilyn Monroe from her last photo shoot. Other pieces to be showcased were black and white photographs of Brigitte Bardot, and other  icons of the 20th century.

The team at Federico Design was involved in construction by removing soffits in the living and dining room, modernizing the bathrooms with frameless glass doors and new stonework, and updating the kitchen cabinets by removing over-the-top decoration from the builder’s original design.  Once construction was completed, Nicole and her team began to carefully select the interior finishes such as beautiful silk wallcoverings for the living room and stairway, paint colors for the common spaces and bedrooms, and stain selections for the wood flooring.  Custom furnishings designed specifically for the couple included a TV cabinet of walnut, suede, and bronze mirror, coordinating console, coffee, and buffet tables, luxurious silk bedding and pillows, unique lighting fixtures, natural grass cloth roman shades, and a variety of conversation-starting art and accessories.
